Welcome from 4M and 4S

9 February 2009

Hello everyone!

Welcome to 4SW and 4M and all the very best for 2009.

The term is going very quickly- it is hard to believe it is Week 4 already. Your children have all settled in very well and are working hard and appear to be very interested and enthusiastic.

It was lovely to see so many of you at the Parent/Teacher meeting last week. Thank you for taking the time to meet Chris and myself and for coming up to the school to learn a little of what we are doing in class this term. Your children seem to be enjoying doing their homework online. Thank you for helping them set this up.

As you are no doubt aware by, Chris and I pretty much team-teach which we find is beneficial both for our students and for us. We teach Maths and Language separately each day and then often join together to cover the other areas of SOSE, Science, HPE, the Arts, Technology and ICTs.

In SOSE this term we are learning about early European explorers and are finding out how their curiosity and desire for spices and beautiful fabrics led to the discovery of the ‘New World’. The children’s assignment is thus about a Spice of their choice and the format is an Oral Power Point (Information Report) Presentation. This first assignment is due on  FRIDAY, March 6. We have shown the children how to make a Power Point and they will be working on this mostly in class. They may work on it at home if they like, but please make sure they bring it to school each day.

Other dates to note:

We start swimming lessons tomorrow, Friday February 20. Please remind  children to wear togs under their uniform as we go first thing in the morning.

Our first Excursion is to the Maritime Museum on Wednesday March 25. More information will follow.

Cross Country training starts next week with the event held on Tuesday April 7.

That’s about all for now. Thank you for helping keep in touch via our KIT books. Please keep using these for any concerns, issues and/or messages.

We are enjoying getting to know your child and are looking forward to a very happy and productive year learning together.

With best wishes

Adrienne & Chris
