This term we will be preparing students for NAPLAN testing which will occur the week beginning May 12. Testing is scheduled for 13 – 15 May with some catch up time for students who may have been absent for aspects of the testing on 16 May. Please be aware that it is expected that all students in years 3, 5 & 7 will be involved in this testing unless they are exempt or withdrawn. These tests are important in assisting us identify the strengths and challenges of individual students as a diagnostic tool. Whilst the results of NAPLAN testing are also used for a variety of comparative purposes in the wider community, it must be noted that from a teacher’s perspective the focus is on the child. This assessment provides one snapshot of what a child may know, do and understand. However, it is not the only piece of evidence that a teacher uses when reflecting on the broad range of curriculum, content and skills a students is to develop over the course of a year. As a result, I encourage all families who will have children participating to approach the testing in a relaxed but supportive manner. This will assist your child in doing their best and not feeling overwhelmed or pressured.
