Come on board: you can make a difference
Q: What is the salary? Is it 6 figures?
A: Well, no not quite.
Q: What’s the superannuation structure?
A: Aww! 10%, 20%, 30%? - you negotiate.
Q: Do I get a car? A phone?
A: Hmmm! No.
Q: Are the hours good?
A: Sure! You will have loads of good hours.
Whilst the perks are great (free tea and coffee and a few scotch finger biscuits), don’t make that your primary driver for joining the team on the JSS P&C. The real perks are that you get to participate in making a difference at your children’s school.
The P&C needs a secretary. The executive committee is spread pretty thin at the moment and we could really do with someone to take on the secretarial duties. It’s not hard, nor is it a huge commitment. Just ask yourself these questions:
1. Can I type with two fingers?
2. Can I open an envelope sustaining minimal paper cuts?
3. Can I spare a couple of hours, once a month on a Monday night to attend meetings?
4. Can I swing by the staff room on a semi-regular basis to pick up the mail?
If your answer is yes then you are qualified.
They say that in a community it is usually only a handful of people who actually participate, and that is not usually because people don’t care, it is because people don’t know how they can be a part of it. We want to buck that trend, the more that are involved, the less each individual has to undertake.
The opportunity to make a difference is a fleeting one since our kids grow up all too quickly. So drop us a line and jump on board!
