On Sunday 15 March, eight very talented Jindalee State School students attended the Somerville House Chess Competition held at Somerville House, South Brisbane.  Teams were entered in the Beginners, Novice and Intermediate division.  Congratulations to all of the students who attended the competition, particularly in regards to the cooperative skills you demonstrated throughout the competition, the courteous manners you displayed towards your opponents, and the courage and determination you showed on the day to ensure that you had achieved your best.

Rachel Y and Joshua W showed great courage and commitment to their game playing.  This was the first chess competition that Rachel had competed in. Joshua has developed into a confident chess player achieving 5th place out of the 27 beginnner players that competed on the day. Congratulations Rachel and Joshua on displaying great courage and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

Siddesh K, Brendan K, and Nandish K played in the Novice division achieving 2nd place out of 30 primary school teams.  Well done boys.  Your hard work and team effort certainly paid off.   The boys received individual medallions for their outstanding effort.

The intermediate team consisted of Evan F, Brandon Y and Luka K.  This team came 1st in the Intermediate Division.  It was Luka's first time in the Intermediate Division and he showed great courage for his first time competing against some of the most talented chess players in Brisbane.  The boys were presented with a trophy which is proudly displayed on the front office counter.  Congratulations boys for keeping focused and persevering during the competition.

We look forward to seeing what further great achievements our students can achieve at the Interschool Chess Competitions that will be held in Term 2.
