Last Wednesday Zac Lord 6 BL flew to Mackay for his first School Sport State titles playing with Met West. Zac was selected just before Easter and after seven training sessions and two trial games all the boys were very excited.
Ten Regions travelled to Mackay and a total of 200 Queensland school children competed for their school region. Met West played three games a day losing the first to Met East. After that the boys went on a winning streak with two more wins on Thursday and three wins on Friday. Super Saturday when the rain may have washed out SE corner, the boys came up against two very strong basketball regions and lost to Peninsula by 22 and Met North by 10.
Zac played well in every game and went through the gruelling carnival injury free. On Sunday Zac represented Met West competing against the strong Peninsula region for the bronze medal. The team had a very strong start and the ball was dropping in favour of Met West. The boys went on to withstand a barrage of 3 pointers from the Cairns boys to win by 6 and complete an amazing 28 point turn around game clenching the bronze medal. Met East defeated the previously undefeated Met North for the second year in a row in the gold medal game. Well done Zac. We are proud of your hard work and accomplishments.
